Bulding a crib

Here, you can follow my project in creating a crib.

The crib is going to be built around my existing bed. My bed measures 94x204 cm.

Some of the wood i am going to use to build the crib. The big ones, is going to be the corners. They measure 120x45 mm. The smaller ones is going to be used for frames where the bars are inserted. The bars is 19 mm.

The tree is pretty cheap. It's supposed to be planned and with round corners, but i need to make it better. Allot of time was spend with sandpaper!

I did not have Allot of power tools to make a crib, so i had to buy Allot
I thought i could use a regular hand saw, but that was impossible!
Here is tools for about $250

Here is one of the sections before i made the holes for the bars. Before this picture, is gone quite a few hours with the sandpaper. I still need 2-3 hours of work before this section is done.

This is the end section with bars. After it was done, i found out that i had my measures wrong, so i had to redo this section.

With Allot of work, this is what it ended up with. Not good, so it went to the trash, and i started all over.

Some days later, i made another try, and this time i got my measures right. 1 section all done :)

As seen on the above picture, i am not able to make a perfect fit. I guess i need better tools, or maybe better skills ;)

3 sections ready, 5 to go.

Use your imagination and see the bed upside down on this picture.

Now it's time for one of the things i fear most. I know Allot of Ikea type furniture's using these screws, but i am not sure i can mange to drill the holes accurate enough, but i guess there is only one way to find out...

As seen on the above picture, i did manage to drill the holes, but i did have to try Allot before i got it right.

The end of the bed.

-and the other end. Only the sides to go now.

The reason for building a crib, is to have a place for this thing ;)

My new drilling machine, that i had to buy to get the holes accurate enough.

The holes are 18 mm, and the bars is 19 mm. Therefore i had to cut a bit in the bars. Allot of dust in my small apartment..

Another bad measure from my side. The bars is to far away from the bed, so i had to cut 10 cm of the corners.

The corners are cut down the 10 cm, and the one side is done.

Almost ready, time to go to sleep this day.

Doesn't it look nice?

Here is the last section, but not yet able to go up and down.

Another picture of the "almost done" crib.

This is how i plan to do the rest. Get the picture?
Otherwise feel free to follow the story on this site.

I bought a jigsaw to cut of the corners., but i could not manage to cut it straight :(

So i had to do some work with the old sand paper again..

This is one of the things i thought would be a big problem, but it actually went quite well.
I did have to move my smoke alarm, because i almost made a fire ;)

The crib is almost done. At least i can sleep like a baby tonight ;)
I still need Allot of adjustment, and a paint job.
